Update

I've been using Fire as my IM client on OS X but after reading an article on /. I tried Adium, it's brilliant and what do you know tabs feature, which is always a massive bonus. If you're still using individual IM clients (ie one for MSN and one for ICQ) then you need to try out Adium or on Linux Kopete (all of which are free).

In the same article it mentioned microsoft remote desktop connection, so I gave it a try and it rules, I can now control my networked XP box from on my Mac. It's free too.

I've been on ebay alot lately trying to get stuff for my office, printer and stuff, and I kept getting outbid in the last seconds. I read up about this and there is something called "sniping" where an application or "listener" can place a bid in the dying seconds of an auction. I couldn't really find a good one that didn't involve giving people money of my ebay password so if you know of a good sniping tool let me know.

Dave Winer today mentioned the new Safari browser that is to appear in the new version of OS X(Tiger). The new version of Safari has built in RSS support and it looks absolutely amazing. Still no update on Aggreg8 yet but looking at this nobody (using a mac anyway) is ever going to want a third party RSS reader ever.

Long Time

Right then, I guess you're due a long update….
I'm now back in England, trying to set up shop. I have been ripping out and then decorating the spare room in preparation for my new office. I signed up for broadband with Internet Central and was due to receive connection on monday but on thursday I decided to configure the modem, lo and behold, I had broadband already. It's great, I have a 512Kbps download /256Kbps upload connection with unlimited downloads for GBP23 a month.. I have set up a closed wireless network too so I can wander around the house while still connected. I have dreamt of broadband at home for about 3 years….finally. I have been applying for tons of jobs a had one offer (tech support- but turned it down). I am still hopeful that I will land on my feet soon enough. My car passed the MOT which is great news so another year with the rochemobil.

I was chuffed to see the new version of Firefox (0.9) was released and I got Aggreg8 to work on it easily but the extensions menu has changed a bit so I will have to do some more tinkering. I am still hopeful of a new release by the end of the month or early July anyway.

I'd like to welcome Oddball (Conor O' D) home from his travles. See you soon mate…

Wifi F*^%ing rules

Wandered into my grandads house looking at sorry ass dial up access. I tried to dial up on my mac but wouldn't connect (wrong password), so I turned on wifi for a laugh and what do you know, one of the neighbours has an open wifi network…..sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet.
I've been doing alot of cv writing and job applications lately and the here are some of the sites I have found useful when looking ofr a job in northwest england.

A few leads so far so fingers crossed….Sya

Why oh why won’t it go dark?

Right then you blog whores, it is now 2:30 am and I am sitting on the night train from Trondheim to Bodo. As some of you might already know, Norway is completely light in the summer months. When people say this they are not exaggerating. It is completely light out as if it were 6pm. There is not a hope in hell of me getting to sleep. I've had great fun so far, doing all sorts of stuff from having a beer in the “hip” part of Oslo to eating fried cod freshly caught by me on the seashore.

It had been great in Trondheim as I had wifi access. my cousins neighbour and my cousin share internet costs and have a wireless network. My eyes light up when I saw that access point.

I applied for tons of jobs there the other day, some really nice e-learning ones and some LAMP ones too. No response as of yet but we'll have to wait and see.

I might have mentioned before but I have decided to make my main home OS of choice Suse. I bought Suse 9.1 Pro and will be installing it on my new system once I get settled again when I get home. I have read some really good reviews so i am looking forward to it. KDevelop and Ximian Evolution looks really good.

Speaking of new systems, I haven't bought one yet but I reckon I will go for a system from Komplett.co.uk. I could have a really good AMD 3000+ cpu, 1024MB Ram, 120GB, DVD, CDRW, Case, Fan etc. for under GBP500 which is pretty good.

Over the last while I have bought a but of hardware for my new office. I have a new 4 port KVM with USB functionality so I will be able to switch between my OSX,SUSE,XPPro systems with the touch of a button. PCWorld fucked up on the price (as they continually do) so I got it for 90 Euro instead of about 140 :). I also recently bought a Zoom X5 adsl modem/router/4 port switch/firewall combi. It has had good reviews so once I get the ancient phone system in the house fixed, I'll be flying.

While hooked up to my drip of wifi access over the last few days I have been on ebay and bought ADSL microfilters (4 for GBP10), Twin Digital phones (GBP28), One Port Print Server (GBP14), Handsfree for my T630 (GBP4). All in all very good and I reckon I will be getting my laser printer from ebay soon too.

I don't think I have ever had a blog this long, but I'll keep going. Opel/Vauxhall the money grabbing bastards want GBP 75 to get a certificate of conformance so I can register the car in the UK, really fucking annoying.

Last week I also bought a DVD player. I saw on Richersounds.co.uk that they had a factory repack of an acoustic solutions multiregion for GBP25 giving a savings of over GBP100. I snapped one up in their Chester store, the remote didn't work first off, but after a replacement, that's all fixed. I have entered the multiregion code yet so I'm not sure if that works yet. It plays all the “Dodgy” Dvds I got in Malayisa so it's all good.

As you can probably tell it has been spend spend spend since I got back, trying to set myself up in the new house, so I am desperatley in need of work, I'll be back in the wonderful Pizza Hut before you know it.

That's for too much for now but I'll post again soon… Sya

Heia Norge

Well folks, it has been a while, since last I have moved all my stuff over to England, Travelled to Norway where I am now visiting my family. Having a ball over here, eating great norwegian food and doing tons of outdoor stuff as the norwegians do. I've applied for a few Monster jobs so I'll have to see how that goes. I'm off again on tuesday on a 10 hour train to see my grandfather and uncle. I'l be back in the UK on the 10th June but I do have a new mobile +447834368721. It's a brand new Sony Ericsson T630.. a really really nice phone.

I’m home

I've been home for a while now but I haven't been able to update my weblog. We arrived into manchester last week after one hell of a long flight. I have had a quite eventful week, I have effectively moved to england, I caused a gas leak after hammering a nail through a gas pipe (emergency services called and all that shit) , I've been bitten by the dog we now live with (if he does it again I'll bite him back). I came back to Ireland and went out with Dooley. I started packing all my stuff for england. It's weird being home and it will definitely take a while to adjust. If you know of any jobs going let me know :).

KLIA

Here I am (free wi-fi) in KLIA airport about to get on a 14 hour 20 minute flight. I just hope to God that they have good movies. We touch down in my new homeland (England) at 5:50am on sunday morning. Then a few days in my new gaff and then home to ireland to collect my gear and car (take note Peter). I have also planned a two week trip to my relatives in norway with my brother Peter at the end of May so that should be fun, the boys on tour and all that….
